Welcome to Life Well Traveled! My name is Rochelle (aka MapQuest) and my fiancé is Don (aka Pickles). I started this blog as a place for me to write and share about our adventures throughout the world, including road trips, travels throughout South America, and most recently, our thru-hike of the Pacific Crest Trail. Don and I met almost 4 years ago working at an outdoor store in Portland, Oregon and he proposed in Tahoe in September of 2014. Our wedding is planned for October of 2015, right after we complete the PCT.

I am a 30-year-old educator, skier, mountain biker, hiker, and writer. I am originally from North Lake Tahoe and most recently worked as a ski instructor at Northstar Ski Resort. Don is 31 and is originally from Western Michigan. Don’s passion is for skiing, hiking, and biking and while his favorite job is working on bikes, this last winter he worked for Northstar in their rental shop. Both Don and I love to be outdoors and we are both small town, love-the-snow kind of people. When we complete the PCT we plan on moving back to North Lake Tahoe and starting our life as a married couple. We also have a long list of bucket-list adventures that we are looking forward to sharing on this blog in the years to come. Thank you for taking the time to peruse the blog…I sincerely hope it will inspire, motivate, and encourage you to get out of your comfort zone and live a life of adventure. Please feel free to get in touch with any comments or questions!

    Hey Don & Rochelle,

It was nice running into you two before I left Portland last week. I am in Grand Marais in northern MN writing this FINAL message before I head out into the woods for the Superior Hiking Trail thru-hike. I have my entire itinerary prepped but I figure the best way for you to get the info would be to contact my friend, Eric. He can forward you my plans and I will hope to see you somewhere on the trail. You can also leave a detailed message at 651-428-6270. Eric’s email is ogdah005@umn.edu and he will be glad to point you in the right direction.

I will try my best to stick to the schedule and I hope to hear from you!

    Good luck 🙂

    Hello Rochelle and Don
I enjoyed looking over your blog. My wife and I enjoy backpacking have read many of the PCT books over the past few years. We are considering taking a run at the PCT someday. Good luck on your current journey.

I stumbled upon your blog via the PCT website. They had a link to your blog under “The Journalist”. If this is a regular or permanent feature, I will check it frequently to see how things are progressing.

    Good Luck!!

Thanks Mike! I didn’t know about “The Journalist” aggregator…very cool! I’ll bet that can be addicting 🙂 I’m honored that you’ll check back on our progress. The PCT is challenging, but absolutely worth it. I hope you and your wife will go for it!

      Rochelle and Don,

Thanks for continuing to post on your blog. I check your post every week or two and usually read a few at a time. I am living vicariously through the two of you!

      Keep up the great adventure!

    Rochelle,

I have been following you and Pickles since day 24 of your PCT hike. I, like Mike, found your blog on the PCT website. Your blogs have been an addicting story line that even has me looking back and catching up on days I had to miss due to my own mini trail adventures on my days off. I have even grown fond of Mama Bear’s role in your journey. I wish you well and fast healing with your foot and I hope Mama Bear doesn’t worry too much while she is away on another project.

    Good luck with your Journey!
